In July, John and I drove up the Gorge to do some hiking and so I could do some sketching. This was my first sketching expedition since the RS Workshop so I wanted to try my new skills. We walked to a beautiful waterfall that I thought about sketching but my courage failed me. I did this log lodged against a rock instead. You can see at the top of the page how I did some thumbnail sketches to figure out my composition first. I also tried out color mixtures in an effort to match colors in the the scene.
We stopped at a viewpoint on the way home on the way home, and I did this sketch of the scene while John read.

This blog is about my journey as a botanical artist--what I am learning, what inspires me and what I am currently drawing or painting. My desire is to continually hone my skills to better express my wonder and gratitude for the beauty of the creation around me in the Pacific Northwest (USA).
I would love to hear from you...
