Hair Adventures

Sarah’s friend offered to trim her split ends, which evolved into a hairstyle make-over, as trims tend to do for us amateurs. Since this friend, who shall remain anonymous, (and is a very sweet person btw) had never cut bi-racial hair before, she soon realized that she was in over both of their heads. The shorter Sarah’s hair got, the more voluminously curly! And as for cutting it evenly…well forget it…her hair both expands and contracts at the same time. The would-be stylist stopped mid-haircut in a panic which resulted in one long and one short side!

When they came home, Sarah gave me a cheerful hug but her friend seemed strangely sheepish. Then Sarah revealed her hair and I understood it all. This was a job for the intrepid Mark, Sarah’s long time hair dresser from Jamaica. He sings, he jokes, he dispenses advice, and he marvelously tames Sarah’s mane. And her new hair style is smashing! Thank you, Mark! I occupied myself by doing a sketch while Mark did his magic.
