I was inspired by Cathy Johnson’s sketches of the birds at her feeder to try one of our squirrels. I referred to her book on Creating Nature in Watercolor, and also referred to Making Color Sing by Jeanne Dobie. Jeanne mixes pure pigments to get richer, clearer colors.
We are amused all winter by the antics of these squirrels!

This blog is about my journey as a botanical artist--what I am learning, what inspires me and what I am currently drawing or painting. My desire is to continually hone my skills to better express my wonder and gratitude for the beauty of the creation around me in the Pacific Northwest (USA).
Ours are fat like that, too! Ours ate all the berries from the wild honeysuckle. Very nice job…
Delightful page! I had six gray squirrels under my backyard bird feeders this morning (I put extra seed out just for them). Your brown ones are cute!
They’re so cute, and you did a wonderful job on the fur! It looks so soft, I want to touch it. nancy
These are great!
I am impressed by the tails on those squirrels. Great page.
Nutty page! Great fat happy squirrels.
Both books are awesome resources! I love your squirrel’s activity. Very observant.
