Chinese teacup

I am fond of this teacup because it reminds me of our trip to China in 2004. I bought the cup and the Oolong tea on our first day there. The teacup has a removable infuser that fits inside so it really is a cup and a teapot in one.

Liz’s wonderful sketches of teapots and cups inspired me to give this subject a try, though I didn’t come close to achieving her graceful, light touch and beautiful layouts. I am working on it! Next week I am taking a watercolor class taught by a local artist and illustrator, Rene Eisenbart, who specializes in botanical subjects. I am looking forward to it (but am a little nervous about it too). I have been wondering…each medium has it’s unique characteristics, when working with the medium of water color, what is the most crucial element to capture in a painting? I mean, besides the composition, etc. I plan to ask Rene what her thoughts are on it next week.

  1. Wow. This is gorgeous! You caught that shine on the side just perfectly. And the dragon, too! Very, very nicely done.

  2. I love this, Janene! Lovely colors and layout. 🙂 I also love your description of yourself in the “About Me” section. I’m also a follower of Jesus of Nazareth. Neat way to put it!

  3. Good layout on your sketch page. I hope you have a wonderful time at the watercolor class.

  4. Wonderful design!… and page comment/link. My daughter Maggie has introduced me to teas (Teavana) and I’m finding it fascinating to learn

  5. Wonderful job, Janene! I love your layout/design. And though I’m a newbie to watercolor, I am going to vote that light would be important to capture.

  6. Beautifully drawn! I love the cups, the chinese characters and the dragon! 🙂

  7. Beautiful drawing and I love the entire page design!

  8. Thanks for your comments!
