Chocolate Detente

I decided to give up trying to control my watercolors, at least not as hard as I had been, and let them do their own thing more. I feel we have a more peaceful relationship now. They surprised me with the shiny chocolates. I wasn’t expecting the chocolates to come out so realistically but…viola! I guess my watercolors like me to give them more space, and in return they will treat me better.

I used one of Jeanne Dobie’s ‘recipes’ for rich, dark, transparent browns–aureolin yellow, viridian and alizarin crimson. They are pure pigments so don’t get muddy when mixed. I wish I had mixed pure pigments for the candy box too, instead of taking the short cut of burnt umber. I think pure pigments would have given me a more shiny clear look. I am learning a lot from Dobie’s book, Making Color Sing.

Btw, I just celebrated a birthday and I got a good supply of you-know-what to add to my stash. I will dole them out to myself (but I do share…a little) over the next few months when I have a craving. That’s the way to really savor chocolates–wait until you really want one…
