Waterlily

I did this painting from a photo in conjunction with the botanical watercolor class I recently took. I did three versions of it and tried to learn from my mistakes as I went along. On this version (the third) I used cold press paper instead of hot press, and that helped a lot. I found that my paint ‘traveled’ a lot more on hot press and it was hard to get the gradation of color I wanted, even though I slanted the paper in hopes of using gravity to keep the paint thick where needed. For now I am going to stick to cold press paper. I’ll chalk the first two versions up to experience!

  1. What a great learning experience with different kinds of paper, I didn’t know that hot or cold pressed paper make any difference, now I do ^^
It’s a beautiful drawing, and the glow from the heart of the water lily is mesmerizing. The colors are brilliant, and overall an excellent package!

  2. Very pretty!

  3. Lovely. What wonderful colors!

  4. It’s beautiful! The shading of the petals is gorgeous, especially at the tips.

  5. Lovely, lovely picture.

If you want to get all the picture to show up- see if this helps. If you are using the newer setup to upload the picture- after it uploads into the blog, click on the picture and change it from center to left. That should give it enough room for the right side to show up- I had the same problem with my pictures. Let me know if this works.

  6. Very pretty.. It’s got a tranquil quality… I love your colors..

  7. Beautiful waterlily, tranquil is the perfect word Linisha.

  8. Lovely waterlily…. it is a big learning curve from cold press to hot press, isn’t it?

Love Ramona’s tip too. I’ll have to try that.
