Botanical Art by Northwest Artist
This agate necklace was made for my grandma by her uncle, I guess that makes him my great-great uncle. The necklace itself it not terribly valuable but I do like it and enjoy thinking of my grandma when I wear it. I have a photo of her as a young woman wearing it and a very fancy fur hat.
This blog is about my journey as a botanical artist--what I am learning, what inspires me and what I am currently drawing or painting. My desire is to continually hone my skills to better express my wonder and gratitude for the beauty of the creation around me in the Pacific Northwest (USA).

Your recent EDM pictures are fantastic… I really wish I could find the time to have a go at an EDM a day… I’m lucky if I get one done a month at the moment!
The necklace in this picture is beautifully painted, really delicate and a sketch of your grandmother wearing it is lovely. The hints of lace around the edge of the page – were they done by putting the lace underneath the paper and ‘rubbing’ with a coloured pencil? Like a brass rubbing? I ask because it finishes the piece off beautifully, really effective!
Thank you travelingsuep and Leslie–I am glad you liked my sketches. For the lace effect around the edges of the page, I used a stamp that I made by taking an impression of some vintage lace. I’ll do a post about it in the future when I get the technique figured out better.
