We headed out to Cathedral Park for our regular Sunday afternoon sketching/reading session yesterday (I sketch, he reads). Lucky us, there was a jazz festival going on at the park that day! We sat at a distance from the concert to get away from the hustle and bustle of the crowd but could still hear the music just fine. This lady was sitting near us chatting with friends and listening to the music.
The park is under the beautiful St. Johns bridge, which has cathedral-like arches, both in the bridge itself and in the foundations. This is a photo of upper part of the bridge that I took last autumn. Beautiful, huh! I want to go back soon to sketch some more.

This blog is about my journey as a botanical artist--what I am learning, what inspires me and what I am currently drawing or painting. My desire is to continually hone my skills to better express my wonder and gratitude for the beauty of the creation around me in the Pacific Northwest (USA).
Lovely sketches Janene
Nicely done! Have a great time at the Urban Sketchers Symposium! Can’t wait to hear (and see!) about it.
Nice! I love the composition here! The woman is so well drawn and I like that you left her black and white while adding color to the trees. Looks like a great technique for painting and sketching in public, where you don’t always have time to do more.
Oh yes, I wanted to go to that symposium so bad! I hope you have loads of fun, and be sure to take ample notes, as those of us who couldn’t go will be waiting to hear about it!
Gorgeous! Have a wonderful time…
