View from University of Portland

Watercolor and ink in Moleskine

I walked over to the the University of Portland the other day to sketch. The school sits on a bluff that overlooks the Willamette River and is easy walking distance from my house. Cranes were unloading ships docked at the industrial area called Swan Island at the base of the bluff.  I liked the collection of ‘towers’ both in the foreground and in the background.

I want to go back to the school to draw again soon.  It’s pleasant to sit in the shade of the huge trees, especially now when the campus is so quiet during summer break.

  1. Talking about technicality here! I really love how you did the cranes and the tones on the buildings and structures are amazing!

  2. beautiful soft coastal tones in a scene with so much to see and so well done

  3. This is really good, I like the way the cranes pull you into the picture, taking you eye to the background.

  4. Hi Janene, Wonderful composition! I like the abstract structure of the industrial area. Wonderful shapes, curves, lines, lacework…so cool! And I enjoyed looking at the work you’ve been doing.

  5. Very nice! I like the way you use subtle colors.

I would love to hear from you...
