White Eagle Saloon

White Eagle Saloon, originally uploaded by jswalkky.

This old tavern, built in 1905, is in the industrial part of town and has quite a checkered past.  It is two blocks from a huge rail yard, and used to be frequented by very tough characters indeed but is now owned by McMenamins and has been beautifully restored.  We spent a fun morning sketching the building, then headed inside to pass around our sketch books and get a bite to eat. 1. Simply Awesome! I like the details on the brick wall as well as the great shadings done on this piece =)

  2. Great work Janene!

  3. Very nice Janene.

If you don’t mind me saying, maybe it needs to be a little darker in the doorway and the shrubbery to the left?

  4. Thanks Alex, Debra and Sue!
Sue, I had a hard time with the shading because the building faces North so shadows were almost non-existent on the front. I tried to add light and shadow, but I see that I didn’t go far enough. Thanks for the tip.

  5. I think you did a good job with a difficult scene. I am impressed by your straight lines on the pole and lamp post.

  6. Hello there! How’s it going?

  7. You’ve got the angles going in all the right places! Looks very tricky but you’ve simplified the sketch and I love the result.

I would love to hear from you...
