On our sketchcrawl at the Architectural Heritage Center I found someone to sketch who was guaranteed not to fidget or become embarrassed at my staring. She sat patiently while I studied her to my heart’s content. I’ve been working mostly in pen and ink and watercolor recently, but graphite is hard to beat for a satisfying values study.

This blog is about my journey as a botanical artist--what I am learning, what inspires me and what I am currently drawing or painting. My desire is to continually hone my skills to better express my wonder and gratitude for the beauty of the creation around me in the Pacific Northwest (USA).
Excellent drawing! The perspective is difficult, I think. The values are wonderful – 3-D!
This is really good. I love all the shadows.

Yes difficult perspective, very well done.
Sometimes it’s just so nice to pick up a pencil again – and what a challenging perspective! Great study.
She is lovely! Focusing on one part of one object is so effective and you really created such effective 3-D modeling.
Yes, the perspective was tricky and the drawing took me quite awhile. At one point I started getting frustrated with all the adjustments I had to do, but decided to let myself take my time, and that’s when it became a satisfying study. Thanks for your comments!
Beautiful work – the perspective is very interesting! Love the light effect you gave it.
this turned out really great!
awesome! I simply love the angle, and how it turned out.
Kazumiwannabe, Marco, and Alex, I appreciate your visit to my blog and thanks for your kind comments too!
This is excellent Janene. Ahh I dream of people who don’t fidget when I’m drawing them, you found the perfect solution.
Lovely! I really like the perspective, and the value changes. You’ve really captured the feeling of the stone.
I love this ..the drawing, perspective and shading…all wonderful, and a smart idea
