I call the little sketchbook that I carry in my purse my ‘waiting sketchbook’. It’s for doctor’s office waiting rooms, for before the movie begins or the curtain rises, or even for gridlock traffic jams…or when I am a passenger on road trips. It is surprising how quickly time flies when one is sketching. And somehow what could have been a lost moment becomes memorable!
I did this pencil sketch as we traveled north to Coeur d’Alene under fluffy cumulus clouds that brought showers the following day.

Do you carry a sketchbook? If so, how do you most often use it?

This blog is about my journey as a botanical artist--what I am learning, what inspires me and what I am currently drawing or painting. My desire is to continually hone my skills to better express my wonder and gratitude for the beauty of the creation around me in the Pacific Northwest (USA).
How lovely.
My “handbag” sketchbook rarely comes out except when waiting. Never in cars though as I’m either driving or chatting 🙂
I don’t sketch much in cars either since I tend towards motion sickness, but this was a long road trip and the sketch was done pretty quickly. Its amazing how vividly the memories of past road trips return when I look at my old on the road sketches.
I think that’s really great Janene, I hadn’t thought of that. Will get one going immediately.
Glad you like the idea, Jarnie. It makes the waiting time speed by!
Thanks for the reminder….I do have a small sketchbook but the habit is not yet formed that I will whip it out and sketch the scene in front of me in those odd moments we all experience. Need to work on that!
I think you’ll enjoy it Deb!
