Someone will be surprised this Christmas! (Don’t worry I have permission to share about it online.)
This painting started with an inquiry last winter about a commissioned painting featuring Lupine. The client wanted the painting for the following Christmas and gave me artistic license in choosing the variety of Lupine and the composition of the painting (I gave him updates and got his approval along the way). Of course, I chose the beautiful native wildflower that carpets the hills of the Columbia Gorge in spring, Lupinus latifolius x serviceus. I talked about the beginning of the journey here.
This project has been especially enjoyable for me, knowing that the painting has a very special meaning for the recipient. I feel very privileged to have received this commission. Now my hikes through the wildflowers of the Columbia Gorge will bring back memories of the time spent studying Lupine and its companion plants and insects for this special painting.
Btw, I found a Cascade Beetle napping on one of the flowers after it had obviously been snacking on the petals, so I thought it appropriate to include it in the painting!
I would love to hear from you...
