Siberian Iris Pods

Siberian Iris Pods

iris_pods

I spent another relaxing morning at Jane’s house sketching and painting with other botanical artists on her deck.  These pods caught my eye as we strolled around her garden looking for possible subjects before we sat down to “work”.

I accidentally knocked them over and out fell the little seeds, so I included them in the drawing.  The pods, seeds and dried sepals all have such interesting textures–thoroughly delightful to draw!  Autumn is on its way, and I look forward to finding more lovely dried and withered pods, leaves and such to draw.  I heard a flock of geese honking overhead as they headed south yesterday, another sure sign that the season is changing.

  1. I think you were lucky that the seeds fell out because the pod and the lively seeds make such a nice composition. I look forward to seeing more of your seedpods this fall.

  2. This is a lovely drawing.

  3. Beautiful drawing as always Janene. The seeds only add to the whole!
