This is a Dutch iris, which is the main flower in my Mixed Study for the SBA diploma. I painted this as practice so it will go in my sketchbook. I’ve finished the painting but I’ll post it after I get my marks back, so stay tuned!
I have just over 2 weeks left to do the last one of the three paintings that are due, a botanical illustration. Yikes! I left the illustration for last because I expect it will be the one I enjoy doing the most, also I am hoping to feature a flowering bulb so perhaps mid-February isn’t too early? I’ll visit some nurseries tomorrow so we will see!

This blog is about my journey as a botanical artist--what I am learning, what inspires me and what I am currently drawing or painting. My desire is to continually hone my skills to better express my wonder and gratitude for the beauty of the creation around me in the Pacific Northwest (USA).
Beautiful practice piece Janene – no doubt the final artwork is stunning!
Good luck as we count down …
